Behind the Brand

Cloud Star offers a range of dog food and treats brands, all inspired by holistic recipes and wholesome ingredients. The company began by making dog treats in 1999 and has built a company based on offering better quality foods for pet owners who are bothered by what’s in cheap kibbles.

Cloud Star got started when founder Jennifer Melton adopted a picky German Shepherd named Samantha. Samantha was prone to allergies, and commercial kibbles only made the issues worse. Melton decided to create her own treats to help her dog get over chronic allergies.

Cloud Star is known for its wide selection of dog treats, but WellMade is its grain-free, baked kibble and canned food line. It uses a blend of meats and veggies to provide dogs with sustenance, energy, and immune system support.

1. WellMade Baked Lamb, Lentils, and Peas Recipe

Rating: 3.8 out of 5 stars

First Five Ingredients:

  • Lamb Meal
  • Lentils
  • Peas
  • Tapioca
  • Canola Oil
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY
WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 8
Real, protein-packed lamb meal is the primary ingredient. It contains high in amino acids that help pooches develop and maintain lean muscles.

WellMade Baked Lamb, Lentils, & Peas Recipe is a grain-free dry food formulated for the nutritional needs of adult dogs of all breeds and sizes.

Lamb is an excellent protein source for most dogs. It is high in amino acids that help dogs keep lean muscles, but still offers the fats that they need to stay energetic all day.

It’s also an excellent way to get picky dogs to eat. This recipe starts with Lamb Meal, a concentrated form of meat that offers a higher percentage of protein than regular meats alone.

The use of peas and lentils isn’t our favorite. Although the link to an enlarged heart isn’t completely understood, we do pause at the use of both ingredients so high on the list.

However, as this recipe contains no lamb heart, liver, or other organs like many other dog foods, it is quite understandable why the plant-based ingredients have higher spots in the ingredient list. After all, this recipe is made with only a handful of ingredients along with vitamin and mineral supplements.

Compared to the cheap fillers and artificial ingredients of bargain kibbles, the use of peas and lentils is an improvement. It uses only natural ingredients and none of the highly processed cheap fillers such as corn or soy. The more straightforward ingredients list is also a better option for dogs with allergies and digestion sensitivity.

Instead of chicken fat which the brand’s other recipes have, this recipe uses canola oil as its main source of essential fatty acids. As lamb tends to have a higher fat content, its meat is rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

This could be one of the reasons why this lamb recipe has canola oil instead. However, canola oil is quite controversial in the pet food industry. If anything, you won’t find it in the list of top oils to include in dogs’ diets.

The kibble is baked instead of extruded the way standard kibbles are made, so it has a consistency more like treats than kibble. It could be a little easier on the jaws of seniors who experience tooth pain. If your dog isn’t a fan of the taste, you might be able to mix a bit of one of the wet food options into the kibble to encourage your picky dog to eat.

It’s a favorable food especially if you’re using one of the bargain kibbles filled with corn, soy, and by-product meals. It can offer you the chance to sort out some of your dog’s digestion issues, build healthier muscles and encourage a proper weight. It’s a well-balanced meal, especially for dogs that have no outstanding health risks.

Feedback for this recipe has been mostly good. Many dogs seem to love the rich lamb flavor of the kibbles. Some pet parents even say that their pups just won’t stop eating them. However, a few said that their dogs are just not fans.

Sensitive dogs who enjoy the taste of these crunchy kibbles are doing quite well. They are able to keep the food down without throwing up. It also does not trigger their allergies.

If you have a dog that enjoys lamb, then this baked, grain-free dry dog food is definitely worth a try. As it is a single-source protein food, it has been quite good for many sensitive dogs. Although lamb has fattier meat, this recipe is not too high in fat and has only a select few veggie ingredients.

2. WellMade Baked Chicken Meal, Peas, & Lentils Recipe

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

First Five Ingredients:

  • Chicken Meal
  • Peas
  • Lentils
  • Tapioca
  • Chicken Fat
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY
WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 9
Real, protein-packed chicken meal is the topmost ingredient. This is also a grain-free kibble made to meet the nutritional needs of adult canines of all breeds and sizes.

WellMade Baked Chicken Meal, Peas, & Lentils Recipe is a grain-free dry food formulated for the nutritional needs of adult dogs of all breeds and sizes. This minimally processed kibble has a total of only 7 ingredients and the rest are vitamin and mineral supplements.

If you want to feed your dog a complete meal that is grain-free yet not too meat-heavy, has vegetables but not packed with about a dozen fruits and veggies – then this recipe just might be perfect for your pup.

At 24% protein, this chicken recipe is a bit low on protein compared to many grain-free brands, but still meets the requirements of adult dogs. With chicken meal as the most plentiful ingredient, you can be assured that it has only high-quality protein.

Chicken meal is clean ground chicken meat, skin, with or without bones that have been rendered. As the moisture has been removed from the chicken, it has much higher amounts of protein and flavor.

Chicken has become one of the most popular meats to feed dogs. Pups of all ages and sizes love its naturally savory flavor that may seem bland to us humans. Not only is it tasty, but it is also easy to digest. This economical protein source is rich in B3 and B6 vitamins, phosphorus, and selenium.

Chicken fat serves as the main source of essential fatty acids in this recipe. It is a fat source that is packed with a lot of meaty chicken flavor, giving the oven-baked kibbles even more of the taste that dogs love.

It is an excellent source of omega 6 fatty acids which are involved in cell membrane structure and cell function. Dogs need them for normal reproduction, growth, immune function, and skin and coat health.

Omega 6 fatty acids need to be balanced with omega 3 fatty acids. This is due to omega 6s stimulating hormones that promote inflammation in dogs’ bodies, which is the body’s process of defending itself from infections, toxins, and injuries. Omega 3s balance this by producing hormones that reduce inflammation and regulate the immune system.

The source of omega 3 fatty acids in this recipe is flaxseeds. The anti-inflammatory properties of flaxseeds can reduce symptoms of arthritis and allergies; lower blood pressure; improve kidney function, and promote healthy skin and coat in dogs. This superfood for dogs is also high in protein and fiber, which is very beneficial to dogs’ gastrointestinal health.

Flaxseeds are not the only nutrient-packed plant-based ingredient in this recipe. This dry dog food also has peas and lentils. Both are high in fiber and protein that benefit dogs’ muscle digestive and health respectively.

It’s main source of carbs is tapioca. It is a highly digestible carb source that helps provide energy to dogs without upsetting their stomachs.

This chicken meal recipe is free from corn, wheat, or soy. It has no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Enriched with vitamins and minerals, it is nutritionally balanced and complete. Unlike the average kibble, this recipe is oven-baked and is minimally processed.

This recipe is one of the brand’s highest-rated products. Based on comments from pet parents, their pups enjoy the crunchy oven-baked kibbles. One pet parent who specifically bought it due to its low phosphorus level reported that her pup is doing quite well on this recipe.

Made for all breeds and sizes, the kibbles are easy to chew even for little dogs. They can pick them up in their tiny mouths without any problem. Pet owners have remarked that the kibble shape is ideal for their dogs.

Overall, this dry dog food from Wellmade is a good grain-free formula based on the quality of its ingredients, nutritional value, and feedback from buyers.

Different dogs have different needs, and not every dog thrives on a high-protein diet. The dogs who are doing well on this recipe prove that even foods with lower protein percentages can also be healthy.

3. WellMade Baked Duck Meal, Chickpeas, & Peas Recipe

Rating: 3.9 out of 5 stars

First Five Ingredients:

  • Duck Meal
  • Chickpeas
  • Peas
  • Tapioca
  • Chicken Fat
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY
WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 10
Made with duck meal, chickpeas and peas, it is is packed with high-quality protein and nutritious fiber. This kibble is even oven-baked, to lock in flavor and nutrition.

Cloud Star WellMade Baked Duck Meal, Chickpeas, & Peas Recipe is a grain-free dry food formulated for the nutritional requirements of adult dogs of all breeds and sizes.

This single-source protein recipe is ideal for sensitive dogs who are allergic to chicken or beef proteins. Oven-baked to crunchy perfection, the kibbles pack a lot of duck’s naturally delicious flavors.

Duck meal is the most plentiful ingredient in this recipe. Compared to many premium brands of dog foods, this dry food does not contain organs from duck or any other animal source.

It has only duck meal which is a high quality, concentrated source of protein made with only duck meat, skin with or without bones.

Duck is an incredibly flavorful protein source that is also highly digestible. It is a great poultry alternative to dogs who are allergic to chicken protein. Aside from being rich in essential amino acids, it is also high in vitamin B and essential minerals potassium and phosphorus.

Potassium is vital in maintaining the fluid balance in the body and supports the normal functioning of nerves and muscles. Phosphorus promotes strong bones and teeth.

Duck also has selenium which plays an important role in normal immune function and thyroid hormone metabolism. It is also rich in omega-6 fatty acids which helps dogs maintain healthy skin and glossy coats.

Despite being usually fattier than chicken, this duck recipe has a slightly lower fat content compared to the WellMade chicken recipe. The main source of essential fatty acids in this recipe is also chicken fat.

Pure chicken fat has no protein, which is the trigger for allergies. A dog allergic to chicken is actually allergic to its proteins, which means they can safely enjoy foods free from chicken protein but contains its fat.

Chicken fat not only adds another layer of savory flavor to this tasty duck recipe but also provides omega 6 fatty acids. These fatty acids are needed for dogs’ cell membrane structure and function. They play a vital role in keeping the immune function healthy as well.

To help dogs get the right balance of omega 6 and 3 fatty acids, flaxseeds are also included in this duck recipe. They are high in protein and fiber as well.

They also have lignans, which can help improve dogs’ heart health and immune system health. The anti-inflammatory properties of flaxseed can help promote healthy skin, coat, joints, and kidneys in dogs.

While many other dog foods may have multiple fruits and veggies as their carb and fiber sources, this grain-free recipe has only a select few. It has chickpeas, peas, and tapioca. Chickpeas and peas are high in fiber and protein.

Fiber improves digestion by helping food move through the digestive tract. Chickpeas are rich in essential nutrients like potassium, magnesium, and folate. These nutrients play an important role in maintaining the good overall health of dogs.

It also has tapioca as its main source of carbohydrates. This starchy veggie is gentle even on sensitive stomachs. It is easy to digest and helps bind the kibbles to enable them to hold their ideal shape.

This recipe is minimally processed and oven-baked to lock in its rich duck flavor and give it a nice, crunchy texture. It is free from artificial enhancers, as well as low-value fillers like corn, wheat, or soy.

This particular recipe from Cloud Star has gotten mixed reviews. While a lot of dogs enjoyed its delicious duck flavor, a few pups are just not fans of this food. Among the fans of this recipe is a dog trainer who said that this recipe is good enough to be given as training rewards.

Because it is a single-source protein recipe, many sensitive dogs are able to enjoy it. The size of the kibbles also seems to be just right for dogs of various sizes. However, one buyer said that the food went rancid halfway through the bag.

Overall, many of the pet parents find good value in this grain-free recipe by Wellmade. Not only do their dogs enjoy it, but it also has a pretty good list of ingredients that is not filled with too many fruits and veggies.

4. WellMade Baked Large Breed Chicken Meal, Peas, & Lentils Recipe

  • Chicken Meal
  • Peas
  • Lentils
  • Tapioca
  • Chicken Fat
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY

Specially made for large breeds, each bite of this tasty kibble is baked to lock in the flavor and crunchy texture dogs love, plus the size of the kibble is perfect so large breed dogs can really enjoy the fullness of every meal.

Cloud Star WellMade Baked Large Breed Chicken Meal, Peas, & Lentils Recipe is a grain-free dry food formulated to provide the nutritional needs of adult large breed dogs.

The size and shape of the oven-baked kibbles are designed specifically for big dogs. The bigger kibbles encourage the dogs to chew their food, which is great for pups who tend to inhale their meals without chewing.

Made with chicken meal, this recipe is palatable and easy to digest. Chicken meal is a high-quality, concentrated protein source that has the essential amino acids that large dogs need to build and maintain strong and lean muscles. Chicken is not only high in protein, but it also has vitamins B3 and B6, phosphorus, and selenium.

Compared to most chicken-based dog foods, this recipe does not include offal or organs. Most of the protein in this large-breed recipe comes from chicken flesh and skin only. Because it is a single-source protein formula, dogs who are sensitive to other protein sources such as beef can safely enjoy this food.

Essential fatty acids are required for multiple aspects of dogs’ health. This is provided by chicken fat, which is an excellent source of omega 6 fatty acids. Omega 6 fatty acids are important in cell membrane structure and cell function. This recipe for large breed adult dogs is slightly higher in fat compared to the chicken recipe for all breeds at 15%.

To ensure that dogs get the right balance of the omegas, flaxseed is included as a source of omega 3 fatty acids. It actually has both omega 6 and 3 fatty acids. Omega 3s act as an anti-inflammatory for conditions that cause the heart, kidneys, skin, and/or joints to inflame. They also help reduce inflammation related to allergies, promoting healthy skin and shiny coats.

Flaxseeds are also high in fiber and protein. Fiber is important in dogs’ gastrointestinal health, and protein is vital in muscle, organ, and immune system health.

Instead of corn, wheat, or soy, this recipe has a select few nutritious veggies as the sources of carbohydrates and fiber. It has pea and lentils which are high in protein and fiber.

According to PetMD, peas help boost energy levels in dogs and are gentle on their digestive system. They also have high levels of lutein, which is an antioxidant nutrient that supports dogs’ eye, skin, and heart health.

Lentils are rich in iron, fiber, protein. The fiber in lentils helps large dogs feel fuller for longer, which helps prevent them from overeating. It also helps food move through the digestive tract. The high fiber content of lentils also helps regulate dogs’ blood sugar levels.

This dry dog food from Wellmade also has tapioca to provide energy-giving carbs to big dogs. It is a highly digestible carb source that is gentle even on sensitive tummies.

It also helps give the kibbles structure and hold their shape which has been optimized to benefit large breed dogs. The kibbles in this food are large and shaped like a flower with a hole in the middle. They resemble tiny bundt cakes.

Aside from the vitamins and minerals added to this recipe to ensure a complete and balanced meal, glucosamine and chondroitin are included to support big pups’ joint health. Glucosamine is what the body uses to make cartilage.

It stimulates the production of cartilage, which is essential in joint health. Chondroitin is an essential component of cartilage, and including a chondroitin supplement helps build new cartilage. This helps prevent the cartilage from breaking down which can lead to osteoarthritis.

This grain-free recipe is free from artificial enhancers such as flavors, colors, and preservatives. They are minimally processed and oven-baked to enhance their meaty chicken flavor and give the kibbles a crunchy texture.

According to feedback from pet parents, this recipe has been great for large dogs with sensitive stomachs. As it has a select few ingredients, there is a lower risk of triggering allergies and other food intolerances in sensitive dogs. Dogs who were newly transitioned to this food did not need much adjustment and had solid stools the entire time.

This is a pretty good formula for big dogs who do not require a high-protein diet. It still provides an adequate amount to help them maintain a lean muscle mass, but will probably not be sufficient for very active dogs.

The large size of the kibbles also encourages them to take their time chewing their food. Based on ingredient quality and results delivered, big dogs with sensitive tummies can definitely thrive on this recipe.

5. WellMade Baked Light Weight Management Chicken Meal, Peas, & Lentils Recipe

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

First Five Ingredients:

  • Chicken Meal
  • Peas
  • Lentils
  • Tapioca
  • Beet Pulp
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY
WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 12
Specifically formulated for weight management, this food is made with recognizable ingredients including chicken meal, peas and lentils. Contains ample fiber content to shed those extra pounds away.

Cloud Star's WellMade Baked Light Weight Management is a grain-free dry food made to help adult dogs of all breeds and sizes lose excess pounds or maintain their ideal weights. This formula is slightly higher in protein and fiber than the brand’s other recipes, but much lower in fat.

Like 2 of Cloud Star’s other dry dog foods, this recipe uses chicken meal as its only animal protein source. It has no chicken liver, heart, or any other organs.

Chicken meal is made from clean ground chicken meat, skin with or without bones. As the moisture and fat have been removed, it offers much more protein and flavor.

Chicken is quite popular among dogs, as many of them enjoy its meaty, savory flavor. It is also highly digestible which makes it gentle on sensitive stomachs. This recipe is 26% protein, which can help dogs keep a lean muscle mass.

This recipe has a much lower fat content than all the other recipes of Cloud Star. In fact, chicken fat takes only the 6th spot in the list of ingredients. It is an excellent source of omega 6 fatty acids that support cellular structure and function.

This weight management recipe also has flaxseed, which is a superfood for dogs. Flaxseeds are high in fiber and protein and have both omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

They contain lignans, which can improve cardiovascular health and may even help fight canine cancer. They help reduce symptoms of arthritis, lower blood pressure, improve kidney function, and support skin and coat health in dogs

Peas and lentils provide even more dietary fiber in this recipe. Fiber is a very important part of canine nutrition. It helps improve dogs’ digestive health, and many holistic nutrition experts believe that having good digestion is the key to good overall health.

Not only does fiber aid digestion by helping food move through the digestive tract, but it also helps dogs feel full. It helps curb hunger pangs in between meals by making them feel fuller for longer.

This may be the reason why this formula has a bit more dried beet pulp compared to the other recipes of the brand. Beet pulp is low in sugar, yet rich in fiber that promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. It is an excellent source of roughage, promoting colon health, while also providing a source of energy.

Tapioca is included as the main source of carbohydrates in this light chicken meal. It is easy to digest and gentle on sensitive stomachs. It helps improve the kibbles’ shape and texture as well.

This weight management recipe is fortified with vitamins and minerals to ensure complete and balanced nutrition with every meal. However, it lacks L-carnitine which can really help dogs utilize fat efficiently and help them lose weight. This is why this compound that supports the metabolism is typically included in weight management dog foods.

This grain and gluten-free food contain no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. The size of the kibbles is designed to be suitable for adult dogs of all sizes.

They are minimally processed and contain only a few plant-based ingredients, compared to many other grain-free formulas which contain about a dozen or so fruits and vegetables. This single-source protein recipe is recommended for sensitive dogs who need to trim down their weights.

Feedback from pet parents who purchased this recipe has been quite good. Their dogs love the kibbles despite the lowered fat content. Fat enhances the flavor of food and maintaining high palatability while keeping the fat content low is a balance that weight management formulas need to have.

Palatability plays an important role in any specialty food that is formulated to address certain health issues. If a recipe is not palatable enough, dogs won’t eat it no matter how good the ingredients are. This may force pet parents to give their pups food that may not be what is best for their health.

If you are looking for a weight management food that has moderate levels of protein and is low in fat, then this dry dog food from Cloud Star may be the one for your dog.

It is especially good for dogs sensitive to proteins other than chicken. It has only a handful of high-quality ingredients and has received good ratings from pet parents.

6. WellMade Homestyle Meals Salmon-Stuffed Chicken Recipe

Rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars

First Five Ingredients:

  • Salmon Broth
  • Chicken
  • Salmon
  • Pea Protein
  • Tapioca Starch
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY
WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 13
Packed with whole, shredded meat, vegetables and a yummy salmon broth. Slow-cooked in a human-grade facility, this only contains organic ingredients.

WellMade Homestyle Meals Salmon-Stuffed Chicken Recipe is a grain-free wet food suitable for adult dogs of all breeds and sizes.

This canned dog food has shredded pieces of chicken and salmon in sauce. This tasty dual-protein recipe is easy to chew even for older pups.

The main ingredient in this wet dog food is chicken. The tender shreds of chicken meat provide the essential amino acids that dogs need to keep a lean muscle mass.

High-quality chicken meat is not just a good source of protein. It also has vitamins B3 and B6, as well as phosphorus and selenium.

To add even more protein and flavor to this dish, salmon, pea protein, and dried egg products are included. Salmon is not only an excellent source of protein but it is also low in fat, high in omega fatty acids, and rich in vitamins and minerals.

Because relatively few dogs are allergic to fish and it is rich in omega 3s, it is an ideal option for dogs allergic to certain protein sources such as beef.

Salmon is not only highly digestible but it is also packed with an intense fish flavor that many dogs love. Dried egg product gives this doggy dinner added richness as well as amino acids. Cooked in tasty salmon broth, this recipe is a flavorful and hydrating dish that dogs can enjoy on its own, or as a meal-topper.

Nutritious veggies give Homestyle Meals Salmon-Stuffed Chicken Recipe not just vitamins and minerals, but also a more flavor and texture. This recipe has green beans and carrots.

WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 14

Green beans are rich in protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins B6, A, C, and K. This low-calorie veggie is also high in dietary fiber that helps dogs feel full and improve digestion and stool quality.

Carrots are naturally delicious and packed with a lot of nutrients. Carrots are rich in antioxidants that help fight free radicals that cause harm to the cells in the body.

In addition to aging dogs more rapidly, free radicals can lead to cancer. Because carrots are rich in vitamin A, it helps boost dogs’ immune systems as well as their eye health, making them especially beneficial to dogs prone to cataracts.

Low in saturated fat and high in vitamin E and omega 6 fatty acids, sunflower oil is included in this recipe as the main source of essential fatty acids. The omega 3 fatty acids needed by dogs are provided by salmon, which is an excellent source of omega 3s.

This grain and gluten-free chicken and salmon dinner for dogs is free from artificial enhancers such as flavors, colors, or preservatives. It is free from carrageenan which is an additive that some experts claim may potentially cause certain conditions in dogs.

Feedback from pet parents who purchased this wet dog food has been stellar. Even the picky pooches loved this flavorful entree.

The dogs gobbled up all of the chicken and salmon shreds and lapped up the sauce made from the delicious salmon broth. It is one of the brand’s best-rated products.

The pet owners love that the chicken and salmon meat are visibly real. They also commented that the food smells good enough for humans, and does not smell like the average commercially available dog food.

This canned formula is highly recommended based on its high-quality ingredients and palatability. Like the brand’s dry foods, this wet dog food is also not filled with too many plant-based ingredients.

7. WellMade Homestyle Meals Savory Stew With Beef Recipe

  • Beef Broth
  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Tapioca Starch
  • Pea Protein
WHY YOU SHOULD BUY

A grain-free dog food made from chicken and beef as the main source of protein. With shredded morsels of juicy meat in mouthwatering beef gravy.

WellMade Homestyle Meals Savory Stew With Beef Recipe is a grain-free wet food suitable for adult dogs of all breeds and sizes.

This dual-protein recipe combines the flavor of savory chicken and the red meat taste of beef that dogs love. It has shredded morsels of meat in tasty gravy.

While it is called a beef recipe, this canned food actually contains more chicken than beef. If your dog is a fan of both, this could be the perfect dinner for him. It features the meat of both animal sources, but not the organs.

Liver and heart are nutritious organs that are commonly included in wet dog foods as they provide a lot of flavors and rich texture. This is ideal for dogs who do not like organs, or those who already eat organs often as treats.

Beef meat is high in protein, iron, zinc, selenium, and vitamins B12, B3 and B6. Although some parts of beef can be high in fat, red meat is not known to cause arteriosclerosis in dogs like in humans and there are plenty of beef sources that are leaner and much lower in fat.

By cooking the ingredients in beef broth, every bite is infused with the meaty flavor of beef. The broth also gives this recipe a tasty gravy the dogs love to slurp, making this a delicious way to incorporate more moisture into your pup’s diet.

As it is enriched with vitamins and minerals, it can be served on its own as a complete meal or as a moisture-rich kibble-topper.

This canned dog food from Cloud Star has pea protein and dried egg product as supplementary sources of essential amino acids. It also has carrots and apples that provide texture, flavor, fiber, and nutrients.

Apples are high in vitamin B which promotes the release of energy from food. They also have vitamin C which supports good immune system health and promotes healthy teeth and gums.

WellMade Dog Food: [year] Reviews, Recalls & Coupons 16

Carrots are high in antioxidants that help protect the immune system from free radicals. It is high in vitamin A that supports dogs’ eye health and immune system. Both carrots and apples are high in dietary fiber that plays an important role in dogs’ gastrointestinal health.

This recipe has 2 sources of essential fatty acids. It has both sunflower oil and tuna oil. Sunflower oil is a good source of omega 6 fatty acids that are involved in cell membrane structure and cell function. Tuna oil is high in omega 3 fatty acids that support heart, brain, joint, skin, and coat health in dogs.

Free from corn, wheat, or soy, this meaty recipe is grain and gluten-free. It also contains no carrageenan, or artificial flavors, preservatives, or colors.

Many pet parents like the price point at which this canned dog food is sold. They feel that it is a good value for its quality. However, it does not seem to be as popular among pups as the brand’s chicken and salmon recipe. Some dogs like this beef and chicken combo, but some turned their noses up at it. A few dog owners find that it has a bit too much water.

While it has good ingredient quality, it did not seem to convert picky pups into fans as the chicken and salmon recipe successfully did.

What Types of Dog Food does WellMade Offer?

There are two different lines of foods with WellMade. Baked kibbles are lightly processed to make them shelf-stable and preserve the natural ingredients. The wet foods use high-quality meats as the first ingredient to provide stable proteins and keep dogs feeling full all day.

The foods don’t have any cheap fillers and never use any artificial colors or flavors. They’re grain-free and contain only quality sources of meat and veggies. They use a handful of essential ingredients as the starting point, and all are balanced for all-day energy.

However, they do not use organ meats such as liver, heart, or lung. If offal or organs are something you want to include in your dog’s diet, this brand is not the one for your pup.

While nutrient-dense, not having organs in a dog’s diet is not necessarily a bad thing. They still get all of the nutrients required for a complete and balanced diet, and the dogs can also get their organ fix from treats, and the nutrients from supplements.

The products are formulated for adults and all breed sizes, except for the large breed formula. They don’t have a puppy-specific formula so check with your vet before using the recipes for your puppy.

What Customers Like and Dislike about WellMade by Cloud Star?

Fans of the foods appreciate the quality ingredients and that there are no artificial flavors or colors. Many dogs who are allergic to cheap fillers or grains can also find some relief from these recipes. They’re not super expensive compared to some of the premium foods on the market.

One of the downsides is the heavy use of peas and lentils in these recipes. A recent study showed a possible connection between the use of these ingredients and an enlarged heart. We would consult with our vet before deciding officially to use these recipes.

They are a little more expensive than your average kibble, and some of the higher protein formulas may cause excess gas at first. Pay close attention to serving size because you often feed less per serving with premium kibbles.

It’s definitely an improvement over cheap kibble, but if you’ve got the budget, there could be some pea and lentil free alternatives that suit your dog. Most people, however, did notice an improvement in their dog’s health.

Positive

  • With the kibble being baked instead of extruded I think it would be a great option for picky dogs. It looks and smells completely different than normal kibble. Has the consistency more of a baked treat than kibble. My dog also has a lot of allergies so with the ingredient list being so short its helped greatly with her itching.” Andrew, chewy.com

Negative

  • Thought we would give this a try as it looked like a very good quality value. Unfortunately, all three boys did not seem to agree.” TexRanger, chewy.com
