1. Triumph Free Spirit Deboned Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe
First 5 ingredients: Deboned Salmon, Chicken Meal, Tapioca Starch, Sweet Potatoes, Garbanzo Beans
Rating: 4.5/5
Free Spirit Deboned Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe is grain-free dry dog food formulated for the nutritional needs of dogs of all breeds and sizes in all life stages. This highly palatable and digestible kibble is made of high quality, nutritious ingredients.
The most plentiful ingredient in this grain-free recipe is real deboned salmon. Salmon is a protein source that is easy to digest and is packed with flavor. Many dogs enjoy the intense flavor of fish, which makes salmon-based dog food a good one to try for very picky pups.
As it is naturally rich in omega fatty acids, salmon is also good for dogs with itchy, flaky skin due to allergies. However, this Triumph Free Spirit kibble is not a limited-ingredient recipe. It contains chicken meal and turkey meal as additional sources of high quality protein.
This recipe’s source of healthy fat is chicken fat. It is also supplemented by menhaden fish oil. Both are high in omega fatty acids which help support skin and coat health. They also add even more flavor to the kibbles.
Instead of corn, wheat, or soy, Triumph Free Spirit has tapioca starch, sweet potatoes, and garbanzo beans as the main sources of complex carbohydrates. They are easy to digest, and contain other nutrients and fiber as well.
This recipe is also packed with nutritious veggies and fruits such as peas, carrots and apples. Superfoods such as dried cranberries, blueberries, avocados, kale powder and others are included for their antioxidant content. Antioxidants help fight free radicals and support cellular health.
Aside from the fiber found in the fruits and veggies in this recipe, it also has probiotics that help improve dogs’ digestion. Having a healthy digestive system helps dogs absorb more nutrients, which results in a better overall health and well being.
This salmon and sweet potato recipe is free from artificial enhancers such as flavors, colors, or preservatives.
According to pet parents’ feedback, this is a hit among their dogs. Even the finicky ones love the salmon and poultry flavors of this recipe.
Many dogs who were previously suffering from itchy skin due to allergies have shown significant improvement after being switched to this food. Their fur started growing back in previously bald spots, and their coats are shiny as well.
Dogs who had gassy tummies also found relief in this Triumph recipe, to the delight of their owners. The probiotics in the recipe seem to be doing a good job at improving the pups’ digestive health.
It is a highly recommended formula if you have a picky pup with skin or digestive issues. It has an adequate amount of protein, but is not too meat-rich. However, if your dog is allergic to chicken or turkey, this may not be the one for him or her.

Customer Reviews
Triumph has a solid reputation online, and most of their reviews are positive, but they do appear to have some issues with the flavor of their foods. There are many pet parents upset that their dogs do not like the taste of Triumph so let’s take a look at some real-life reviews from verified customers to get our feel for the company.
Positive
Really pleased with this dog food
My black lab has allergies, and her fur was dull, and she would itch and chew her fur until she had bald spots. So I switched her to Triumph grain free salmon and sweet potato dog food about 4 yrs. Ago and her skin and coat are beautiful, no more crazy itching and chewing of her fur.
Her black coat is so shiny, and when you pet her, it feels like I use conditioner on her. She is just a new dog and feels better. Never smells like a dog just soft and shiny and I only bathe her once or twice a year. – Chewy Customer
Great Dog Food
The best thing about this food is my pups love it. It smells God awful, but they just love it! As a major bonus: absolutely no FARTS!! It's easy on their tummies. Hair and skin look great – Chewy Customer
German Pointer
My dog after 2 yrs started having strange spells of a large amount of foam built up and having hard time vomiting. Was trying to eat everything even the carpet to get relief and sometimes vomiting yellow bile foam in the morning.
Finally got so bad carried her to the doctor. She had skin allergy too by then with a fever. Finally found this without sweet potatoes and salmon. She is doing a lot better. Have tried other expensive brand but did not work. Simple Six have been a lifesaver for Lucy. – Chewy Customer
Negative
Makes dogs sick
I have three boxers. I tried to make a change from Royal Canine to this to save a little money. This was the worst mistake I have ever done when it comes to dog food choices. Never Again. My dogs tried it, and all of them kept getting sick.
I tried added gravy, other soft food and there was NO Change. I am going back to Royal Canine NOW. They love the treats by Triumph, but they can't stand the food. I am throwing out the rest of my dog food bags now. – Chewy Customer
Not working out for us
The pieces are very small–even for my smallest dog. Of my three dogs, one is very hesitant to eat it and doesn't finish his meal, and one runs away from it and doesn't want to eat it–when she finally does, she doesn't finish it. Their stools aren't as good on this food either. – Chewy Customer

Affordable Premium Dog Food With One Problem
If your dog has issues with vomiting, diarrhea, and other food sensitivities you want to give Triumph a try. Many pet parents claim the food has completely transformed their pup and made a significant impact on their life.
Overall, the food has excellent ingredients, variety, and reputation but so many people say that their dogs won’t eat it. We wish the brand had more reviews so we could honestly find out if that’s a significant issue or just a sprig of bad luck.
In the end, Triumph makes a high-quality dog food product that appeals to sensitive dog bellies all over the country and beyond.
Is triumph a good dog food?
Triumph Wild Spirit Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor's mid-tier rating of 4 stars.
Is Triumph dog food safe?
Food safety is the main priority at Sunshine Mills Inc. (the manufacturer that makes Triumph). Every bag and each can of dog food is carefully monitored and checked as it makes its way through the facility. The overall reputation online of Triumph is excellent with most dog foods rated between four and five stars.
Is it cheaper to make your own dog food?
Definitely! Homemade meals may even make it possible to feed your dog well for less. A 15- pound bag of high-end dry dog food costs approximately $42, and a 5.5 oz. can of high-end wet food runs approximately $2. Feeding a medium-sized dog two cans of wet mixed with two cups of dry food costs about $5 per day. That doesn’t include the treats, bones and tidbits that inevitably make their way into her tummy!
What is the best thing to feed your dog?
Dr Leigh from Your Vet Online advises that it is important to ensure your dog's food is both complete and balanced for its stage of life, and if it has any medical issues. It is entirely acceptable to feed your dog a pure kibble diet. Or you can mix their diet up with some cooked or raw meat, fish, vegetables and rice.
