The Timberwolf Organics brand of pet food follows the tagline, “Herbal Carnivore Specific Pet Foods” which is an accurate description of their products. . In this Timberwolf dog food review, it’s clear the brand recognized a need for quality pet foods specifically designed to meet the nutritional requirements of carnivores like dogs and cats – leading to the development of their Originals line of dry food products.

More recently, Timberwolf released a line of grain-free options, many of which are simply updated versions of the original recipe. Another factor that makes Timberwolf Organics unique from other pet food companies is the fact that their recipes are designed to be used as part of a rotational diet for dogs.

Timberwolf believes that dogs are not designed to eat the same thing every day – a rotational diet consisting of rotating formulas and protein sources offers improved nutrition and a more satisfying feeding experience for dogs.

By changing your dog’s diet every few weeks you can reduce the risk for allergies, avoid adverse eating behaviors, maintain a strong digestive system, and improve nutrient uptake.

Who Makes Timberwolf Organics?

The Timberwolf pet food company was founded in 1999, making them one of the earliest produces of rotational diets for pets. The Timberwolf brand was at one time produced by Diamond Pet Foods, but that is no longer the case.

Now, Timberwolf Organics is a private and independently owned pet food company. This allows the company to have greater control over the quality and safety of their ingredients as well as their products. Timberwolf takes these things very seriously, so cutting ties with Diamond Pet Foods was a smart move.

The Timberwolf Organics website does not say exactly where their manufacturing facility is located but their products all carry the statement, “Made in America with Pride”.

Where Do They Get Their Ingredients?

With a name like Timberwolf Organics, you should expect this company to use high-quality ingredients, and you would be right to do so. According to the company website, Timberwolf uses only the highest quality sources of protein including chicken, lamb, salmon, and more as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, nutritional rice, herbs, seeds, and gourmet oils – all in an effort to create the healthiest, most wholesome recipes possible.

Recall History

The Timberwolf Organics company takes the quality and safety of their products very seriously. They are very careful about where they source their ingredients and everything is thoroughly tested before being used in a product and then again before being sold.

As careful as Timberwolf is, however, the company has still been involved in one recall. That recall was not issued by the FDA, however, and it was never definitively proven that Timberwolf products were to blame for the issue. Here are the details of that recall:

  • In June 2008, the Timberwolf Organics released a voluntary recall of two of their dog food products due to reports of sickness. The two recipes affected were Dakota Bison and Ocean Blue. No definitive cause for the sickness was determined.

Are Timberwolf Organics Products Expensive?

The Timberwolf Organics brand of dog food is a high-quality brand with very limited availability. In addition to being made with high-quality ingredients, many of them are organic which drives up the price.

Unfortunately, Timberwolf Organics products are only available on the company website, Amazon and at limited specialty pet stores, so that can also affect the price.

For a 24-pound bag of Timberwolf Organics dry food, you will spend about $65 – you can save a little money by purchasing a two-pack or a larger bag. Timberwolf Organics currently doesn’t offer any canned foods for dogs.

What Kind of Dog Food Does Timberwolf Organics Offer?

When it comes to their dog food products, Timberwolf Organics has two different product lines – Legends and Originals. The Originals line includes five original recipe dry foods featuring premium proteins like venison, lamb, bison, elk, and salmon, flavored with fresh herbs and botanicals.

Parting Words

A solid takeaway from this review is that the brand stands out for its commitment to high animal-protein formulas and ancestral-style nutrition. Their recipes consistently feature multiple meat and fish sources, making them a strong option for supporting lean muscle, energy levels, and overall vitality—especially for active dogs or those that thrive on protein-rich diets.

Another reason to consider this brand is its focus on grain-free, filler-free formulations paired with functional ingredients like omega fatty acids, prebiotics and herbal blends. These additions can support skin health, digestion, and immune function, while also appealing to dogs with certain food sensitivities.

However, it’s not without considerations. Some formulas are quite rich, which may not suit dogs with sensitive stomachs, and the use of legumes in place of grains may not align with every pet owner’s preference.

Overall, this brand is worth considering if you’re looking for a protein-forward, instinct-inspired diet with diverse ingredients—particularly if you’re interested in rotational feeding and minimizing common allergens.
