The Timberwolf Organics brand of pet food follows the tagline, “Herbal Carnivore Specific Pet Foods” which is an accurate description of their products. This brand recognized a need for quality pet foods that were specifically designed to meet the nutritional requirements of carnivores like dogs and cats – that led to their development of the Originals line of dry food products.

More recently, Timberwolf released a line of grain-free options, many of which are simply updated versions of the original recipe. Another factor that makes Timberwolf Organics unique from other pet food companies is the fact that their recipes are designed to be used as part of a rotational diet for dogs.

Timberwolf believes that dogs are not designed to eat the same thing every day – a rotational diet consisting of rotating formulas and protein sources offers improved nutrition and a more satisfying feeding experience for dogs.

By changing your dog’s diet every few weeks you can reduce the risk for allergies, avoid adverse eating behaviors, maintain a strong digestive system, and improve nutrient uptake.

Who Makes Timberwolf Organics?

The Timberwolf pet food company was founded in 1999, making them one of the earliest produces of rotational diets for pets. The Timberwolf brand was at one time produced by Diamond Pet Foods, but that is no longer the case.

Now, Timberwolf Organics is a private and independently owned pet food company. This allows the company to have greater control over the quality and safety of their ingredients as well as their products. Timberwolf takes these things very seriously, so cutting ties with Diamond Pet Foods was a smart move.

Timberwolf Dog Food Reviews

The Timberwolf Organics brand of dog food only uses the highest quality ingredients in their products, and their recipes are carefully formulated to deliver complete and balanced nutrition.

Every recipe begins with at least one premium-quality protein like lamb, venison, or bison and is supported by digestible carbohydrates, many of which are grain-free.

Timberwolf products are loaded with fresh herbs and wholesome fruits and vegetables which provide natural sources for key vitamins and minerals, though each recipe is synthetically supplemented as needed – often with chelated minerals. Each recipe also includes dried fermentation products for probiotic support.

1. Timberwolf Organics Black Forest Legends Venison & Lamb Recipe

Timberwolf Organics Black Forest Rating: 5/5 stars

Timberwolf

is a grain-free, protein-rich formula designed for dogs of all life stages, including those with food allergies or sensitivities. It features fresh venison and lamb as primary proteins, complemented by whitefish and salmon, and balanced with herring oil for omega fatty acids.

The recipe includes sweet potatoes as the main carbohydrate source, supplemented by pumpkin, green peas, and various fruits and vegetables. While the formula has a high protein content of 30%, it also contains dehydrated alfalfa meal, which adds plant protein.

Salmon oil provides a high-quality animal fat, supporting skin and coat health. The formula includes herbal extracts, synthetic supplements, and probiotics for digestive health.

It meets AAFCO standards for all life stages and is noted for its high-quality ingredients and natural flavor, though the plant protein from alfalfa meal may be a minor concern. Overall, it's a nutritious option for a balanced diet.

2. Timberwolf Organics Wilderness Originals Elk & Salmon Recipe

Timberwolf Organics Elk & Salmon Food Rating: 4.5/5 stars

This product is designed to mimic the natural diet of wild wolves with lean proteins like fresh elk and salmon, supplemented by salmon meal for added protein concentration.

This recipe is fortified with fresh fruits, leafy greens, herbs, digestive enzymes, and probiotics, making it suitable for dogs of all life stages.

The formula features a 26% crude protein content and includes oats as a gluten-free carbohydrate source, alongside sweet potatoes and pumpkin.

While oats are digestible for many dogs, they may not be ideal for those with grain sensitivities. The recipe also contains alfalfa, which adds protein but its contribution to the total protein content is unclear.

Salmon oil serves as the primary fat source, providing beneficial omega fatty acids for skin and coat health. The recipe includes a mix of fresh produce and synthetic supplements, with chelated minerals to enhance nutrient absorption. Dried fermentation products offer additional probiotic support.

Overall, this recipe offers high-quality nutrition with lean proteins, digestible carbohydrates, and healthy fats. It’s well-suited for dogs of all life stages, though it may not be the best choice for dogs with grain allergies.

Is Timberwolf Organics Made in the United States?

Yes. Timberwolf is headquartered in Windermere, Florida and their production facility is USDA-inspected and one of a select number of pet food manufacturing facilities that carries an Agricultural Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) certification.

The Timberwolf Organics website does not say exactly where their manufacturing facility is located but their products all carry the statement, “Made in America with Pride”.

Where Do They Get Their Ingredients?

With a name like Timberwolf Organics, you should expect this company to use high-quality ingredients, and you would be right to do so. According to the company website, Timberwolf uses only the highest quality sources of protein including chicken, lamb, salmon, and more as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, nutritional rice, herbs, seeds, and gourmet oils – all in an effort to create the healthiest, most wholesome recipes possible.

All of Timberwolf’s ingredients come from trusted sources and they contain a balanced variety of essential nutrients. In terms of exactly where their ingredients come from, Timberwolf uses many U.S.-sourced ingredients but some of their meats come from outside the U.S. For example, this company uses lamb meal imported from New Zealand and ranch-raised meats from Canada.

Timberwolf doesn’t use any corn, wheat, or soy ingredients and their products are free from refined flours, hormones, and antibiotics.

Recall History

The Timberwolf Organics company takes the quality and safety of their products very seriously. They are very careful about where they source their ingredients and everything is thoroughly tested before being used in a product and then again before being sold.

As careful as Timberwolf is, however, the company has still been involved in one recall. That recall was not issued by the FDA, however, and it was never definitively proven that Timberwolf products were to blame for the issue. Here are the details of that recall:

  • In June 2008, the Timberwolf Organics released a voluntary recall of two of their dog food products due to reports of sickness. The two recipes affected were Dakota Bison and Ocean Blue. No definitive cause for the sickness was determined.

Are Timberwolf Organics Products Expensive?

The Timberwolf Organics brand of dog food is a high-quality brand with very limited availability. In addition to being made with high-quality ingredients, many of them are organic which drives up the price.

Unfortunately, Timberwolf Organics products are only available on the company website and at limited specialty pet stores, so that can also affect the price.

For a 24-pound bag of Timberwolf Organics dry food, you will spend about $65 – you can save a little money by purchasing a two-pack or a larger bag. Timberwolf Organics currently doesn’t offer any canned foods for dogs.

What Kind of Dog Food Does Timberwolf Organics Offer?

When it comes to their dog food products, Timberwolf Organics has two different product lines – Legends and Originals. The Originals line includes five original recipe dry foods featuring premium proteins like venison, lamb, bison, elk, and salmon, flavored with fresh herbs and botanicals.

The Legends line includes seven different dry food recipes, many of which overlap with the Original line. These recipes are newly formulated, grain-free versions of the classic recipes. In addition to their dry food products, Timberwolf Organics also offers an assortment of dog treats including jerky treats, protein powder, and slow-roasted organ meats.
