In our quest to find the perfect food for our picky eater, Alaina (a rescued mix husky), I stumbled upon Spot & Tango’s UnKibble dog food.
Her immediate enthusiasm for this new food surprised me, and I was intrigued to learn more about what makes UnKibble stand out in the market.
Let's delve into the details of Spot and Tango’s innovative approach to pet nutrition.
About Spot & Tango
Never heard of Spot and Tango dog food? You should!
It’s a company that started out crafting nutritious food for dogs in the founder’s New York kitchen.
From home-cooked meals, the recipes have now evolved and have been perfected and formulated by veterinary nutritionists and veterinarians. Spot & Tango offers two types of food options — Fresh (cooked weekly) and UnKibble.
While the Fresh food range is made in a USDA/FDA approved kitchen in New York, UnKibble is prepared in a state-of-the-art facility in Wisconsin.
Currently, they offer a convenient dog food delivery service to ensure your furry friend gets their meals right at your doorstep.

How It Works
Getting Alaina her weekly meals was easy. I just went to the website and started their “3-minute quiz”. The quiz asked for my dog’s name, birth date, weight, age, lifestyle, dietary restrictions, etc. The system calculated the best meal plan for her using all of the information I submitted.
It also allows me to choose from 4 fresh recipes on offer:
- Beef & Barley
- Chicken & Brown Rice
- Cod & Salmon
- Turkey & Sweet Potato
After signing up, I received a confirmation email of my order. I love that Spot & Tango is making the experience as personal as possible.
They also sent a package tracking number so that I could track my orders easily and be notified when it has been delivered.
What Makes UnKibble Different?
Well, unlike your ordinary run-of-the-mill kibbles, UnKibble is made with 100 percent human-grade ingredients. Yep, none of those scraps or by-products. Your pet gets only the ingredients that humans eat.
There’s so few in the market that can boast of this. What’s more, every order from the site comes with personalized meal plans so that every bite is measured to match your pet’s exact feeding requirements.
While regular dry kibbles are extruded at high temperatures, UnKibbles are gently dried at low temperatures. There are no powdered meats (or meals — meat that have had the moisture removed or reduced).
It’s just real meat and real veggies in simple recipes that make no use of artificial colors, additives, or flavors.
How UnKibble is Made
UnKibble undergoes a process the company calls Fresh Dry. It’s a technique where USDA meat, starch, fresh ingredients such as fruits and vegetables are dehydrated gently at a low temperature to retain all the natural colors, aromas, and nutrient content of each ingredient.
Your dog will relish the full taste of each ingredient, while you appreciate all the convenience that dry dog food affords.
A pack of UnKibble comes with a customized serving scoop, ensuring you know precisely how much your pet needs at each feeding.
Each bag can be stored for up to 12 months if sealed. However, once unsealed, pet owners are advised to have their pets consume it within 3-4 weeks because Spot & Tango does not use any preservatives.
The food is made in small batches to maximize nutritional integrity.
UnKibble Review by Alaina
So, the moment of truth arrived – would Alaina, my notoriously finicky eater, give her tail-wagging approval to UnKibble? For those unfamiliar with Alaina, she’s a pup with a discerning palate!
I was optimistic about UnKibble’s chances (after all, she had relished the Fresh line from Spot & Tango), but I was also prepared for the possibility of her snubbing it. After ordering online, I opted for the Beef & Barley Formula.
The crinkling sound of a package opening is like a siren call to pets. Drawn by the noise, Alaina approached, perked up her ears, and gave an eager sniff as I opened the bag. Her interest was piqued!
I carefully portioned out the food into her bowl, and she dove in without hesitation. It was a delightful surprise. I can’t stress enough how selective Alaina usually is, and yet, she devoured the entire serving.
Thanks to the precise meal plan, I knew she was getting her nutritional needs met. But she seemed to want more. I resisted her pleading eyes, well, mostly. I caved and gave her a tiny bit more. She was just too excited.
So, the verdict is in – UnKibble gets a resounding yes from Alaina. And I couldn’t be happier. Even though she managed to charm a little extra food out of me, I have no guilt. After all, I’m feeding her healthy food.
Pricing and Subscription
While the price may be steep for some, it’s actually not a bad deal when you consider that all ingredients are premium and the food is always freshly cooked.
Since the brand offers a trial subscription, you can try UnKibble for two weeks and get 50% off exclusively from us. Once the trial is over, your subscription will auto-renew, but you can cancel your plan at any time.
The 2-day shipping is free via Fedex Ground to the 48 contiguous states.
The Verdict
Is Spot and Tango worth the cost? Yes. This dog food is not cheap. You can get cheaper options at the store, but it certainly won’t be as fresh and probably won’t be as high-quality as the UnKibble is.
Looking at the food, I was also impressed that I could see the actual ingredients. From the Beef & Barley recipe, I could see the chopped up carrots, green beans, cranberries, and everything else right there. It’s not like regular kibbles where you can’t identify the things that are included.
The ingredient list is short but excellent. All are rich in dietary fiber and antioxidants. There are no preservatives, which is one of the best signs that a food is wholly natural.
You can check the dog food’s guaranteed analysis and know your dog’s not missing out. The protein’s pretty high, and there’s a good amount of calories, fat, and fiber.
So to summarize, it’s more expensive than your regular kibbles BUT it’s a wise investment if your pet’s health is your priority. After all, a sickly pet will end up costing you more than a healthy dog food plan.
