Meet Spot & Tango’s Unkibble. It’s the new, fresh way of getting your dog healthy meals, but what is it? Read on for our comprehensive UnKibble Review below.

If you’re feeding your dog dry kibbles or even wet canned food, then the UnKibble is a step up in a better direction. UnKibble is dry dog food that’s made with real ingredients, kept fresh, tailored with a custom meal plan for your pet, and then delivered to you.

Kibbles are the most popular way of feeding dogs. That’s because their benefits are numerous — to both human owners and pets alike. For example, they are:

  • Convenient  – No refrigeration is required. You can leave your pup food in the morning, and it will be just as viable and tasty when you get home at night.
  • Supportive of oral health – Crunchy kibbles are essential in scraping away those tartar and plaque buildup on your dog’s teeth. Some are even crafted specifically to remove the plaque as the dog chows down.
  • More energy dense – Dry dog foods often contain more nutrients for a canine’s energy needs than one that’s not. Unlike canned food which contains more moisture than food, kibbles are made up of around 10% or so water only.
  • Less messy – Kibbles don’t make as much of a mess than wet food does. You can easily pack some with you to bring on any journey.

UnKibble doesn’t just offer the advantages mentioned above, but it also adds to them, making the list of benefits even longer. See, UnKibble comes with a vet-developed meal plan specific to your dog’s needs, so any portioning guesswork is taken off the table.

You don’t need to wonder exactly how much your pet needs for his breed, weight, or lifestyle. Spot & Tango’s specialists will do that for you.

About Spot & Tango

Never heard of Spot & Tango? You should. It’s a company that started out crafting nutritious recipes for dogs in the founder’s New York kitchen.

From home-cooked meals, the recipes have now evolved and have been perfected by veterinarians and veterinary nutritionists. The brand currently makes two types of foods — Fresh (cooked weekly) and UnKibble.

While the Fresh range is made in a USDA/FDA approved kitchen in New York, UnKibble is prepared in a state-of-the-art facility in Wisconsin.

Spot & Tango UnKibble

What Makes Spot & Tango's UnKibble Different?

Well, unlike your ordinary run-of-the-mill kibbles, UnKibble is made with human-grade ingredients. Yep, none of those scraps or by-products. Your pet gets only the premium ingredients that humans eat.

There’s so few in the market that can boast of this. What’s more, every order from the site comes with a plan so that every meal is measured to match your pet’s exact feeding requirements.

While regular dry kibbles are extruded at high temperatures, UnKibbles are gently dried at low temperatures. There are no powdered meats (or meals — meat that have had the moisture removed or reduced).

It’s just real meat and real veggies in simple recipes that make no use of artificial colors, additives, or flavors.

How UnKibble is Made

UnKibble goes through a process the company calls Fresh Dry. It’s a technique where USDA meat, fresh fruits, starch, and veggies are pasteurized gently at a low temperature to keep all the natural colors, aromas, and nutrient content of each ingredient.

Your dog will enjoy the full taste of each ingredient, while you appreciate all the convenience that dry food affords.

A pack of UnKibble comes with a customized serving scoop, so you’ll know precisely how much your pet needs each feeding. Each bag can be stored up to 12 months if sealed. Once unsealed, however, pet owners are advised to have their pets consume it within 3-4 weeks because Spot & Tango does not use any preservatives.

The food is made in small batches to maximize nutritional integrity.

Pricing and Subscription

Spot & Tango UnKibble subscription starts at $7/ week and this pricing is dependent on different factors such as your dog’s weight, breed, age, and of course, the recipe itself. In my dog Milo’s case — he’s 50 lbs. — it comes out to $26.46 per week or $3.78/day for the Beef & Barley recipe.

I checked the other recipes and for Chicken & Brown Rice, that will be $29.61 weekly, while it’s $29.4 for Duck & Salmon. The rates are based on 2 meals a day.

While the price may be steep for some, it’s actually not a bad deal when you consider that all ingredients are premium and the food is always freshly cooked. Since the brand offers a trial subscription, you can try UnKibble for two weeks at 50% off exclusively from us. Once the trial is over, your subscription will auto-renew, but you can cancel your plan at any time.

The 2-day shipping is free via Fedex Ground to the 48 contiguous states.

Signing Up

Getting my pets her weekly meals was easy. I just went to the website and filled up the form. It asked for my dog's name, birth date, weight, age, lifestyle, dietary restrictions, etc. The system calculated the best meal plan for my pet using all of the information I submitted.

It also gave me an option to choose one out of three recipes on offer. Currently, there’s Beef & Barley, Chicken & Brown Rice, and opening for November preorder is Duck & Salmon.

After signing up, I received a confirmation email of my order. Spot & Tango also sent a package tracking number so that I could track my orders easily and be notified when it has been delivered.

UnKibble Review by Alaina

Spot & Tango's Unkibble

Okay, so we come to the part where I test to see if UnKibble will be given by Alaina’s tail wags of approval. For those who aren’t familiar with this pupper, well she is one picky eater!

I was hopeful for UnKibble’s reception (I tried the Fresh line from Spot & Tango before, and she loved it!), but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if she turned her nose up on these. Since Duck & Salmon wasn’t yet available, I ordered the Beef & Barley Formula.

The sound of packaging opening is a universal enticement to pets to draw near. So this picky dog came to check what’s what, turned her head up and sniffed as soon as I opened the bag, and looked eager to examine things more closely. Amazing.

I carefully scooped out the food and placed them in my pup’s food bowl, and she dived right in. Well, life is certainly full of wonderful revelations. I have to emphasize again how picky this precious baby is, and she just gobbled it all up.

I knew she has enough to meet their nutritional needs because of the precise meal plan, but she actually wanted more. Nope, I was not having any of that. Well, maybe just a little itty bitty scoop more. This pupper was so eager.

So yes, UnKibble has my dog's vote. And yes, I am happy because even though she wheedled a little extra food from me, I have no guilt feeling whatsoever. This is healthy food I am giving her.

The Verdict

This dog food is not cheap. You can get cheaper options at the store, but it certainly won’t be as fresh and probably won’t be as high-quality as the UnKibble is.

Looking at the food, I was also impressed that I could see the actual ingredients. From the Beef & Barley recipe, I could see the chopped up carrots, green beans, and everything else right there. It’s not like regular kibbles where you can’t identify the things that are included.

The ingredient list is short but excellent. There are no preservatives, which is one of the best signs that a food is wholly natural. You can check the dog food’s guaranteed analysis and know your dog’s not missing out. The protein’s pretty high, and there’s a good amount of calories, fat, and fiber.

So to summarize, it’s more expensive than your regular kibbles BUT it’s a wise investment if your pet’s health is your priority. After all, a sickly pet will end up costing you more than a healthy dog food plan.

Is spot and tango good for dogs?

Yes. Each recipe is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO dog food nutrient profiles for all life stages, which means it is appropriate to feed to both puppies and adult dogs. Spot & Tango food contains no fillers, additives, or preservatives, so it arrives frozen
