When you check out the brand’s product line, you’ll find pure food that won’t make you feel guilty feeding your pet. What you won’t find are artificial preservatives or flavors.
This Pure Harmony Dog Food review will delve into the products lineup more deeply to help you make an informed decision if it’s the right dog food choice to give your furry companion.
About The Brand
Pure Harmony is a small pet food brand owned by Topco LLC, the largest American retail group purchasing organization.
The company was established in 1944 by a group of food retailers, but it only recently started operating in the pet food industry.
Topco produces Pure Harmony dog food products in the US, but there is no information available where it sources its products or where the manufacture takes place.
Given the brand’s small size and its relatively new addition to the pet food market, there is little information about it to research and review.
Pure Harmony products are also often found in independent retail stores rather than on large pet food stores like Chewy.com or Petco so it can be difficult to get customer feedback.
The products can sometimes be found on Amazon, but the site only stocks a few items and the products are often unavailable.

1. Beef and Brown Rice Recipe
First 5 Ingredients: Deboned Beef, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Chicken Meal
Guaranteed Analysis:
This dry dog food features premium beef as its primary ingredient, providing a protein content of 22%, supplemented by dried egg product and fish meal.
It includes grains for necessary carbohydrates, and three fat sources (chicken fat, fish oil, and coconut oil) for omega fatty acids promoting healthy skin and coat.
This diet is suitable for adult dogs, particularly for maintaining or losing weight due to its low-calorie count, while still offering sufficient protein and energy.
Although the protein content could be higher, the overall formulation and ingredients are satisfactory.
2. Salmon, Pea & Chickpea Recipe
First 5 Ingredients: Salmon, Menhaden Fish Meal, Peas, Chickpeas, Salmon Meal
Guaranteed Analysis:
This kibble combines salmon, menhaden fish meal, and dried egg product to achieve a high protein level of 30%, exceeding the AAFCO minimum requirement of 18% for adult maintenance.
This grain-free formula uses peas and chickpeas for carbohydrates without compromising the protein content, as evidenced by the guaranteed analysis and the top five ingredients.
Ideal for fish-loving dogs and highly active canines, it offers a substantial amount of omega fatty acids for healthy skin and fur.
Additionally, it provides guaranteed levels of vitamins A and E for skin health and antioxidant protection. While the calorie count is moderate, the fat content could be slightly lower.
3. Chicken & Sweet Potato Puppy Recipe
First 5 Ingredients: Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal (Source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin), Tapioca Starch, Sweet Potatoes, Turkey Meal
Guaranteed Analysis:
This dry puppy food offers comprehensive nutrition to ensure healthy growth and condition. With a high protein content of 27%, exceeding the AAFCO minimum of 22% for puppies, it includes three premium animal protein sources for energy and lean muscle build up.
The calorie content supports growing puppies, while sweet potatoes and starch provide necessary carbohydrates.
Rich in vitamins, minerals, taurine and antioxidants, it also includes live microorganisms to enhance nutrient absorption. It also features chondroitin and glucosamine, beneficial for joint health, especially in large breed puppies.
4. Lamb Flavored With Rosemary Recipe
First 5 Ingredients: Chicken, Lamb Broth, Lamb, Chicken Liver, Dried Egg Product
Guaranteed Analysis:
This is a wet dog food designed to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles for growth and maintenance, except for large breed puppies.
It features a high meat content with fresh chicken and lamb, but no vegetables or fruits. The fat content is elevated due to chicken liver, and the calorie count is notable, which may not be suitable for overweight dogs.
While the high meat content provides essential nutrients, the inclusion of carrageenan, an unnecessary thickening agent with healthier alternatives, leads to the recommendation to avoid this product.
5. Beef with Carrots & Sun Dried Tomatoes
First 5 Ingredients: Beef, Beef Broth, Water Sufficient for Processing, Beef Liver, Carrots
Guaranteed Analysis:
Featuring real beef as its first ingredient, this food provides balanced nutrition for dogs, including large breeds, in a convenient bowl form.
Unlike the Grain-Free Lamb recipe, it incorporates nutritious vegetables like sun-dried tomatoes and spinach for natural nutrients.
It features good protein levels, low fat, and low calories, making it suitable for weight maintenance or loss. The inclusion of antioxidant-rich vegetables and fruits is beneficial.
However, the presence of carrageenan, a controversial ingredient with potential digestive toxicity, leads to a recommendation to avoid this food despite its positive aspects.
6. Chicken, Ocean Fish & Vegetable Stew Recipe
First 5 Ingredients: Fish Broth, Chicken, Chicken Broth, Ocean Fish, Dried Egg Product
Guaranteed Analysis:
This stew is designed to meet AAFCO nutritional levels for maintenance. It features real chicken and ocean fish, providing a balanced meal with average levels of protein, fat, and fiber.
With low calories, it's suitable for daily feeding, even for less active or slightly overweight dogs. The diet offers essential nutrition without excess calories, and the ingredient list appears to be premium and free of problematic components.
Overall, it's an excellent choice for feeding your adult dog.
Recall History?
Pure Harmony has been involved in one recall in 2019, but it was not connected to a food safety issue. Pure Harmony Chicken, Barley and Pea Dog Food in 14lb. bags were removed from Save Mart/S-Mart, Lucky, Lucky California, and Food Maxx store shelves due to an off odor.Â
Is Pure Harmony Good For Your Dogs?
Yes. At least the dry dog foods are worth the switch. And a few of the wet food recipes.
We find it an excellent dog food brand because the first ingredient is always meat (unless it is canned food, in which case the first might be a broth) and the brand only uses premium products (never cheap fillers).
Although there are select vegetables in the food, the recipes never rely on plant based protein. It is always focused on providing dogs with plenty of meat for a rich-tasting and healthy diet.
And what the vegetables and fruits can’t provide in terms of nutrition, the inclusion of supplemental minerals and vitamins will.
The grains that the brand uses for its grain inclusive meals are some of the preferred ones by consumers. These are no cheap substitutes, and you won’t find corn, artificial flavors, or common allergy-causing ingredients like soy or wheat.Â
While the grain-free recipes use legumes in the formulations, these don’t overwhelm the food. Meat is still the main focus, and the peas only act as a distant support. Looking at the ingredient list, there is no danger of DCM with these meals.
You also won’t find animal byproduct meals, wheat, soy, or artificial flavors and colors in the foods that they make.
However, we have to note that many formulas from the company wet food product line for dogs contain carrageenan, which is a highly controversial ingredient and one we do not expect in a quality dog food diet. If not for the presence of carrageenan, we’d have given the whole brand a big two thumbs up.
