Not all kibbles are the same, and breed-specific formulas can offer better nutrition tailored to specific needs.

Eagle Pack’s dog food for large and giant breeds addresses common issues such as joint support with the inclusion of glucosamine, which helps reduce joint pain and improve mobility.

The recipe prioritizes protein, with chicken meal and pork meal as the first ingredients, ensuring a minimum of 25% protein content to support muscle and bone health.

Unlike fresh meat, meat meals provide higher protein levels due to reduced moisture content. The formula also includes nutritious grains like brown rice and oatmeal, providing digestible carbohydrates and fiber.

This combination of ingredients makes the recipe both flavorful and highly nutritious, especially beneficial for dogs without grain sensitivities.

This lamb recipe combines chicken and lamb (red & white meat), creating a flavorful and nutritious meal that large-breed puppies will love.

Puppies have distinct nutritional needs compared to adults, especially during their growth phase, which requires ample protein and DHA for brain development.

Wholesome grains like oatmeal, brown rice, barley, and white rice provide digestible carbohydrates and fiber, aiding digestion and supporting overall health.

The formula also includes probiotics for a healthy immune and digestive system. While it could benefit from more fruits and vegetables, this recipe offers a balanced diet to support the growth and development of large-breed puppies.

Manufacturing Details

The Eagle Pack brand of dog food was founded in 1970, originally under the name Hy-Ration. In 2000, the brand released its Holistic Select line of products and, in 2004, the company was purchased by Swander Pace Capital.

In 2007, Eagle Pack was sold to the Berwind Corporation, the company that oversees WellPet, LLC. WellPet, LLC is the same company that produces the Wellness brand of holistic foods.

Ingredient Sourcing

The brand is known for providing pets and pet owners with “nutrition you can trust”. This company follows an all-natural approach to pet nutrition which means that they use only high-quality proteins, wholesome grains, and healthy fats in their products – they do not use any artificial fillers or additives.

Though Eagle Pack states that their ingredients are all-natural and high-quality, they do not provide any specific information about where their ingredients come from.

Recall History List

The Eagle Pack brand doesn’t broadcast the fact that their products are manufactured by Diamond Pet food because this company has been linked with a number of serious recalls in recent history.

Fortunately, there is only one recall that has affected the Taste of the Wild brand in particular and it happened several years ago in 2012. Here are the details for that recall:

In May 2012, the FDA issued a recall for all sizes of Taste of the Wild dry dog food and cat food products having production codes with a number 2 or 3 as the ninth digit and the letter X as the 10th or 11th digit as well as a “Best By” date between December 9, 2012 and April 7, 2013. This recall was issued due to potential salmonella contamination.

Price Comparison

This brand of dog food is surprisingly affordable for a high-quality brand of pet food, though it does cost more than the typical kibble. You have to remember, however, that low-priced dog foods are often low-quality.

The price for a 30-pound bag of dry dog food ranges from about $35 to $60, depending on the recipe. A smaller 15-pound bag of dry food will cost somewhere between $20 and $33, depending on which recipe it is.

Some recipes are even available in smaller 6-pound or larger 40-pound bags. When it comes to canned food, you can purchase 13.2-ounce cans of wet dog food in cases of 12 for $25 to $35 which gives you an average price of around $2.50 per can.

Eagle Pack Dog Food Review

Product List

The company doesn’t offer many products as some food brands, but all of the products they do offer are of the highest quality.

They currently offer four recipes: three are designed for regular adult dogs, and one is specifically formulated for large breed dogs. All three recipes are made with chicken or lamb as the primary protein.

They previously had wet food formulas, but production ceased in 2020 due to a bad batch that led to consumer complaints.

Final Say

Eagle Pack dog food is considered a premium dog food option that is generally well-regarded by pet owners. It is available on various platforms, including Amazon.com, where it has received positive reviews for its quality ingredients and nutritional value.

Many dog owners have reported that this dog food is good for dogs, contributing to their overall health and well-being. However, as with any product, individual preferences and dietary needs can vary.

Some pet parents may find that their dogs respond better to different formulations or brands. For those who do not find Eagle Pack suitable for their pets, there are numerous other reputable food companies offering high-quality alternatives.

Therefore, while this is a solid choice, it's always wise to consider multiple options to find the best fit for your dog's specific needs.
