Meet Supreme Source Dog Food

Here we have Supreme Source which is a healthy pet food focused on using a specific ingredient to help increase the nutritional value of their food: Seaweed.

Much of their foods contain USDA organic seaweed from Nova Scotia. They get it from that specific area because the harsh cold conditions make the seaweed resistant to stress so much of the nutrients remain in the food during the preparation.

All of that may sound like a dream or an unlikely sequence of events, but the company ensures they have done an ample amount of testing to prove that it’s true.

Seaweed has a slew of health benefits including but not limited to:

  • Digestive support
  • Intestinal health
  • Immune health
  • Antioxidants
  • Longevity

Something that’s astonishing to us is that the company doesn’t have a seaweed farm or a way to produce the weeds at a fast rate. They harvest everything from Canada in small batches, and they don’t disturb the natural development of the plants.

In this article, we’re taking a dive to try and understand more about Supreme Source and whether or not their food is a good option for your pups.

Behind the Brand

American Pet Nutrition is an umbrella company that owns Supreme Source. This company owns a wide variety of pet food lines and has a relatively strong reputation across the internet.

Supreme Source joins them with that reputation because we not only find the ingredients in their food to be highly recommended, but their price in comparison to some others of the same quality is much lower.

Since the companies founding over 40 years ago, they have always been family-owned, and they maintain that family style of food preparation. Everything gets prepared in small batches following the strictest guidelines, and it shows. The company has never had a recall in their 40 plus years of operation.

Supreme Source Dog Food Reviews

In this section, we’re taking a close look at some of the popular dog food lines from Supreme Source. We’re looking at exactly what they’re doing and how their reputation stands up online.

1. Supreme Source Salmon Meal and Sweet Potato

  • Overall: 4 out of 5
  • Ingredients: 4 out of 5
  • Flavor: 4 out of 5
  • Reputation 4.5 out of 5
  • Price: 4 out of 5

This food appears to be their most popular brand because it has the most reviews on Chewy. Out of 50 reviews they have 4.8 stars which mean only three people out of 50 have given them anything less than five stars. They have also not received a one-star review on this product ever.

The manufacturer also says that this food works on pups of all ages and types. Some reviewers do say that the kibble is too small, so their dogs don’t like it, but those reviews are few and far in between.

Grain-free diets get suggested for dogs that suffer from allergies or skin problems, and we find that a lot of people who have tested this product have said it immediately cleared up their dog's skin and stopped them from scratching.

Now let’s take a close look at the ingredients. A lot of companies use a meal instead of true form salmon because the meal comes when all the water is extracted from the meat during the cooking process. This makes the protein more concentrated, so you get it in a pure form.

When you see a salmon meal, it’s often confused with salmon by-product meal which is two completely different things. The salmon meal comes from the actual salmon product where the by-product comes from all the parts that no one wants.

  • Protein: 26%
  • Fat: 11%
  • Fiber: 8%

11% fat is somewhat low in comparison to a lot of other foods; it could be because there are not enough oils in the food which is common to healthy pet foods like this. 8% fiber is excellent though, and the protein is right where it should be as well.

2. Supreme Source Turkey Meal and Sweet Potato

  • Overall: 4.5 out of 5
  • Ingredients: 4 out of 5
  • Flavor: 4.5 out of 5
  • Price: 4 out of 5

Their second most popular dog food line is the turkey meal and sweet potato. Similar to the previous option we have another one that uses meal as the first ingredient. This means they extracted all the water from the meat during the cooking process, so they're left with the pure protein afterward.

There is nothing wrong with this and it’s not to be confused with by-product meal.

This line is 100% all natural, grain-free, and free from artificial flavors or colorings. The food also contains the naturally sourced seaweed we’ve talked about to help round out the nutritional value and supply a bit of antioxidant.

Out of 43 reviews, this food has 4.8 stars and a 95% recommendation rating. There are only two negative reviews available, and one person says that their dog doesn’t like the flavor. The other reviewer complains of an unexpected price rise.

Overall, you cannot argue with positive reviews, and an outstanding reputation like this company has. Many people say switching to this food has changed their dog's life, and it has made them live a better life as well. For us, it almost seems like a no-brainer.

Supreme Source

What Types of Dog Food Does Supreme Source Offer?

Supreme Source only offers four different food options which may not seem like much but they all have excellent reviews, and sometimes less is more. When a company focuses on a few set amounts of proteins and ingredients, it tells you a lot about where their concerns are.

Supreme Source would instead offer fewer options but be able to maintain fresh premium ingredients instead of providing one hundred different mass produced choices.

All of their food contains the same types of ingredients with a different protein. Every food in their line is also grain-free which has its pros and cons. Many dogs have a hard time digesting gluten and if that’s the case than a grain-free diet might be necessary. There are some cases where grain-free diets have led to heart issues in dogs, but the verdict is up in the air on that.

Here are the Supreme Source food offerings:

1. Salmon Meal and Sweet Potato

This 100% grain free food is made using a salmon meal in comparison to regular salmon. The meal contains more protein and a higher concentration of the actual salmon. It also has real fruits and vegetables including peas, sweet potatoes, and berries.

First 5 Ingredients:

Salmon Meal, Peas, Lentils, Faba Beans, Sweet Potatoes

2. Turkey Meal and Sweet Potato

Similar to the previous food, this line contains a lot of the same ingredients but a different protein source. Using turkey meal as the first ingredient your pup gets all of their protein alongside peas, chickpeas, and sweet potatoes.

First 5 Ingredients:

Turkey Meal, Peas, Chickpeas, Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes

3. Pork, Peas, and Wild Boar

This 100% all natural and grain free food contains a few different protein sources along with vegetables and fruits. The food uses pork as the first ingredient, and it has a high protein analysis of 26%.

First 5 Ingredients:

Pork, Peas, Lamb Meal, Lentils, Wild Boar

4. Lamb Meal and Potato

This high-quality food contains all-natural ingredients produced in small batches. The food has no corn, wheat, soy, and it's completely grain-free. Beyond the typical proteins and vegetables, it also has seaweed which is considered a superfood capable of benefiting your dog's immune system and digestion.

First 5 Ingredients:

Lamb Meal, Peas, Lentils, Potatoes, Poultry Fat

Customer Reviews

In one last attempt to show you that Supreme Source is one of the most recommended dog food brands we’ve ever reviewed, we’re going to show you some real reviews from actual customers word for word. Here you’ll see honest opinions of everything they had to say, good or bad. This is the best way to make your final decision.

Positive

Good Quality Food

I bought this originally because my two medium to small dogs love salmon. I keep coming back because they have better coats and scratch less while eating it. They like it better than another kibble, and they are both food hounds, so they rarely turn up their noses at anything. They both lost some weight and have good energy. – Chewy Customer

A Life Saver

I have two 90+ lb Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and this food was a lifesaver. My older one has had stomach problems for years. Chronic diarrhea, poor appetite, and bad gas. Very bad gas. I had tried him many foods over the years that the vet recommended.

Often I'd have to put him a bland chicken and rice diet. I saw this one Smart N Final one day and decided to give it a shot. I am so glad I did because it cured him. His stools are solid, his appetite is back, and his gas is completely gone.

My younger one is tolerating it well too. I decided to start ordering it here because it has become very popular at my local store and they have been having trouble keeping it in stock. – Chewy Customer

Negative

Good Kibble, Tiny Kibble

This kibble is good quality, and my dog likes it, but it is not really for a medium or large dog. My dog started coughing after a piece got caught in his throat. I recommend this kibble for a small dog, but unless the company produces a larger size, it's not right for my medium dog. – Chewy Customer

Tasty, but too small

My dog loves the taste of this food. We had switched from another brand because she refused to eat it. The problem is the cable is very, very small. She ends up eating very quickly and sometimes throws up. I'm going to have to either switch to another food or mix this with a larger kibble. – Chewy Customer
